Everything DiSC® Facilitation System Modules
|
|
Below is a description of each of the 13 modules included in the Everything DiSC® Facilitation System. Trainers can mix and match modules according to the group's training needs.
Typically Module 1 and 2 are always used, and the rest are selected according to the desired outcome.
Module 1: Set-Up
We all know that people are different. But every once in a while, we experience this diversity in a way that's truly eye-opening and inspirational. It helps us understand past frustrations and delivers a flood of insight that leads to new solutions. DiSC® has been thriving for nearly 30 years because it consistently delivers this experience. This module sets the stage for any number of DiSC seminars by painting a colorful picture of human differences that participants can easily relate to their own lives. It is designed to generate excitement about the day ahead and open participants up to new possibilities.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Make a personal investment in the learning experience
- Understand the relevance of the seminar to their struggles and goals
- Commit to concrete goals for the seminar
- Build enthusiasm and curiosity for the day
Module 2: Close
No matter how long or short your seminar is, participants need the chance to summarize and digest their experience. They need the opportunity to "bring it all together." This final module puts the day's ideas into the big picture and captures the core of DiSC® learning. It is designed to solidify the seminar's ideas through discussion and action planning.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Process the major ideas discussed throughout the day
- Gain a broader perspective on their learning experience
- Develop a vision to act on their new understanding and skills
Module 3: Administration of DiSC Classic (Paper Version)
Not everyone has experience taking behavioral profiles like DiSCs Classic, and people occasionally have misconceptions about what these tools really are. This module provides step-by-step instructions for administering the DISC instrument. It helps you avoid misunderstandings and guides participants through the responding and scoring process with confidence and reassurance.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Understand the nature of the DiSC Classic profile
- Avoid confusion when responding to the instrument
- Score their responses quickly
- Feel comfortable and safe with the profile administration process
Module 4: Discover Four Styles of Behavior and Explore the General Preferences of Your Style
At its core, DiSC® helps people understand human differences. This module provides the basic foundation for that understanding through an engaging process. Lectures about models and theories have been replaced by a series of activities that help participants discover DiSC for themselves. The result is a practical understanding of DiSC, which other insight modules can build upon for a wide range of uses.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Learn the foundations of the DiSC model
- Understand the implications of their DiSC styles
- See the characteristics of each DiSC style
- Appreciate the diversity of personal styles
Module 5: Learn About Your Strengths and What Happens If They Are Overused
Everybody likes to succeed. So when we find something we do well
(like analyzing, empathizing, inspiring, or directing), we often find as many opportunities as possible to use those abilities. This module helps participants learn about the strengths that are associated with their styles and explore how these assets have helped them succeed in the past. They also discover how overusing these talents can actually hinder their success.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Identify the strengths of the different DiSC® styles
- Recognize how personal strengths have contributed to their past successes
- Understand how their strengths can be overused
Module 6: Learn About Your Behavior When You Are In Conflict With Others
Fight or flight? In reality, there are more than just two responses to conflict. Each of us, and each DISC® style, reacts to conflict in a unique way. We have our own goals, our own fears, and our own ways to get what we need. This module helps participants understand their reactions to conflict and how these reactions affect those around them. It also helps them discover more constructive ways to deal with conflict.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Appreciate the different conflict responses of the four styles
- Recognize their own conflict style and the impact that it has on others
- Build an empathy for the conflict styles of their co-workers
- Develop intuitive skills for managing conflict
Module 7: Learn How to Recognize the Styles of Other People
People are complex. No exceptions. But DiSC® offers simple ideas that enable people to identify many of the most important and basic behaviors, needs, and priorities of those around them. In this module, participants learn how to quickly recognize the styles of other people. Then they use their DiSC knowledge to help build more effective relationships.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Understand the basic principles of people reading
- Identify the DISC styles of other people based on their behavioral cues
- Practice reading the DiSC styles of others
Module 8: Understand How Others Interpret Your Behavior
A friendly smile to one person is a smug grin to another. Few of us realize how easily our actions can be misinterpreted. This module helps participants understand the diverse filters that others use to interpret their behavior. It also provides them with a non-threatening way to get important feedback from their co-workers. Once participants understand how others may see them, they can use that information to help avoid misunderstandings and build stronger relationships.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Recognize that we each have unique filters for interpreting behavior
- Appreciate all the different ways that their behavior can be interpreted
- Get specific but safe feedback from others about their behavior
- Use this new feedback to improve their work performance
Module 9: Learn How to Adapt Your Communication to Different Styles
Contrary to popular belief, people don't want to be treated the same. In fact, behavior that's appropriate with one person can be disastrous with another. Put simply, people are different and we need to take those differences into account in our relationships. This module builds on our natural instinct and helps participants recognize the diverse preferences of each DiSC® style. It shows how easy it is to undertake small changes that can make other people more comfortable with us.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Understand the diverse needs and preferences of each DiSC style
- Recognize inappropriate or unproductive communication
- Explore ways to become more effective with each style
Module 10: Understand What Motivates You at Work
You can't motivate other people. But you can help create an environment that allows them to tap into their own personal motivation. This module explores the basic motivations that drive the different styles. It helps participants see more clearly which aspects of their work environments are motivating for them. Using this insight, they create plans to maximize their performance by tapping into their unique motivational needs.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Appreciate that we all have different motivational needs
- Recognize the environments that are personally motivating to them
- Find ways to maximize the motivators in their current work environment
Module 11: Learn How to Address Goals and Fears to Gain Commitment
Everyone has a unique set of personal needs - things like stability, control, approval, and status. When these needs are threatened, people are likely to experience fear. And fear can suppress the drive to pursue bigger, more important goals. To gain commitment from others, we must recognize the fears that are stifling their energy. This module shows how DiSC® can help supervisors, managers, leaders, and team members connect with others' goals and address their fears. Participants can then use this understanding to more effectively secure commitment toward performance objectives.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Understand how a person’s goals and fears relate to commitment
- Discover a DiSC framework for identifying goals and fears
- Recognize and reduce opposition and resistance
- Create situations where others can be energized and committed
Module 12: Learn to Adapt Your Management Approach Based on Willingness and Ability
Imagine you are a supervisor, manager, leader or team member and you've got a project to get done. You want to get the best out of everyone around you. Do you tell them the expected results and let them take it from there? Or do you work out a step-by-step plan together? Well, clearly, it depends on the situation. How proven are their skills and what level of personal motivation do they bring to this project? What kinds of direction and input do they respond to best? This module shows participants how to read the needs of others and get the best results possible. They will learn what approaches are most effective when taking into account both willingness and ability in combination with DISC® style.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Gauge the willingness and ability of others in a given situation
- Intuitively adapt to the developmental needs of other people
- Reduce tension and miscommunication when working with others
- Get better, more efficient results from team members
Module 13: Learn to Read and Respond to Your Customer’s Style
Think about yourself as a customer. What's the best way to sell you something? Lots of facts and proof? A friendly salesperson who takes the time to get to know you? Different people respond to different things. The trick is to figure out which strategy is most effective with the customer you've got in front of you. This module helps participants do just that. They can quickly recognize the motivations of their customers and how to connect with them. Role plays and action planning ensure that these new skills go beyond the classroom and actually boost real-world effectiveness.
This module is designed to help participants:
- Identify quickly the unique buying needs of their different customers
- Understand their own selling styles and when they need to be adapted
- Reduce their frustrations and fears with difficult customers
- Create natural and influential relationships with their customers
